The SNAPshot DSR comes with a Performance Check Set consisting of two SNAP devices with standardized printed spots in blue plastic bases. One device produces a negative ratio and the other a positive ratio.

 

SNAP Duo Beta-Tetra ST Plus quick test

The LA SNAPduo ST Plus rapid test is a robust and flexible rapid test procedure for the detection of both Tetracycline and Beta-lactam (including Celalexin) residues in milk, at or below the EU MRL tolerance/safe levels.

No thermostat or other lab accessories are required to use these tests, the kit includes everything for testing, which is not confined to the laboratory, and can be conducted even in the milking parlor or on the milk truck.
Milk samples taken from the refrigerator, milk cart, or bulk tank can be immediately tested.
SNAP can be used for testing cow’s, sheep’s, goat’s, buffalo’s, donkey’s, horse’s and camel’s milk.
Suitable for testing different types of milk samples (normal, UHT, sterilized, powdered, and thawed milk).
The test result is available in 6 minutes.
The test is ILVO validated.

New IDEXX SNAP pet tests in Alpha-Vet’s portfolio
IDEXX SNAP® rapid tests belong in the category of in-house, single-use tests with ELISA technology. ELISA is a reference laboratory quality technology, considered to be the gold standard for field tests. SNAP® tests detect antigens and/or antibodies in the blood or faeces of animals. SNAP® provides the highest sensitivity and specificity due its unique features: the use of washing and amplification steps, as well as bidirectional flow.

The following SNAP rapid tests are available:

To examine a dog

4 Dx Plus test Anaplasma (tick-borne Anaplasma phagocytophilum, Anaplasma platys),
Heartworm (Mosquito-borne Dirofilaria immitis)
Lyme disease (tick-borne Borrelia burgdorferi C6)
Ehrlichia (tick-borne Ehrlichia canis) detection.
The test is performed using 3 drops of blood sample and 4 drops of conjugate. Sensitivity/Specificity: 96%/100%
Leishmania test The test is performed 2-3 months after infection using 2 drops of blood sample and 6 drops of conjugate. Sensitivity/Specificity: 96%/99%
Heartworm RT test For the detection of heartworms (mosquito-borne Dirofilaria immitis). The test is performed 5-7 months after infection using 3 drops of blood sample and 4 drops of conjugate. Sensitivity/Specificity: 96% / 100%
cPL test For the detection of canine pancreatitis/pancreas-specific lipase. The test is performed using 3 drops of blood sample and 4 drops of conjugate. Sensitivity/Specificity: 94% / 97%
Giardia test For the detection of Giardia lamblia in faeces. The test is performed 5-8 days after infection using 5 drops of sample / conjugate. Sensitivity/Specificity: 94% / 99%
Parvo test For the detection of canine parvovirus 2a, 2b, 2c in faeces. The test is performed 4-8 days after infection using 5 drops of sample /conjugate. Sensitivity/Specificity: 100% / 100%
Lepto test For the detection of canine leptospirosis. The test is performed using 3 drops of blood sample and 4 drops of conjugate. A positive result indicates the presence of antibodies to Grippotyphosa, Canicola, Pomona, and Icterohaemorrhagiae. Sensitivity/Specificity: 96% / 100%

To test a cat:

Feline triple test For the detection of feline immunodeficiency virus (p15, p24, p40 antibody),
feline leukemia virus (p27 Dirofilaria immitis antigen),
feline heartworm (antigen).
The test is performed at least 28 or 60 days after infection using 3 drops of whole blood, serum, or plasma, and 4 drops of conjugate. Sensitivity/Specificity: 99% / 100%. It detects heartworm disease..
Feline Combo FIV / FeLV test For the detection of feline immunodeficiency virus (p15, p24, p40 antibody),
feline leukemia virus (p27 Dirofilaria immitis antigen).
The test is performed at least 28 or 60 days after infection using 3 drops of whole blood, serum, or plasma, and 4 drops of conjugate. Sensitivity/Specificity: 99% / 100%. It detects heartworm disease.
fPL test For the detection of feline pancreatitis / pancreas-specific lipase. The test is performed using 3 drops of blood sample and 4 drops of conjugate. Sensitivity/Specificity: 94% / 97%
ProBNP test Cat proBNP test for the detection of heart abnormalities. The test measures NT-proBNP, an indicator of dilation and stress in the heart muscle.

How the SNAP test works:

Weaknesses of competitor tests:
Competitor tests use predominantly lateral flow technology, which shows results through the use of gold particles.
Competitor tests do not include a wash phase, and the result obtained is difficult to interpret as blood particles are left behind, interfering with the reading. None of the competing products use amplification. For these reasons, the sensitivity of competing rapid tests is lower and the rate of both false positive and false negative results is much higher.
According to a study conducted in Florida by an independent organization, tests for feline leukemia showed the following results (per 100 samples):

Witness test: 3 true positives, 4.5 false positives

VetScan rapid test: 3 true positives, 14 false positives

IDEXX SNAP quick test: 0 false results

Witness tests
3 true positives + 4.5 false positives The specificity of the Witness test is only 95.5%. This means that a positive probably result is more likely false than true, while for IDEXX this value is 100%
VetScan tests
3 true positives + 14 false positives The specificity of the VetScan rapid test is only 85.7%. This means that a positive result is probably more likely to be erroneous than correct, while for IDEXX this value is 100%
